Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Oil City had an population of 9,660 people. This is a decrease of 8.5% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 16.03% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Oil City had a population of 10,557 people (which is 19.2% of the total population of Venango County). This makes Oil City the county's most populous community.

The population of Oil City represents 0.08% of the total population of Pennsylvania (which has 12,702,379 people), making it the state's 63rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 10,557 people, the population of Oil City decreased 8.23% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 11,504 people).

We originally found mention of Oil City in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Oil City was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Oil City post office opened in 1861.

We also found Oil City in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
