Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Johnstown had an population of 19,171 people. This is a decrease of 8.61% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 19.81% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Johnstown had a population of 20,978 people (which is 14.6% of the total population of Cambria County). This makes Johnstown the county's most populous community.

The population of Johnstown represents 0.17% of the total population of Pennsylvania (which has 12,702,379 people), making it the state's 25th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 20,978 people, the population of Johnstown decreased 12.25% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 23,906 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Johnstown was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Johnstown post office opened in 1811.
