At the time of the 2010 Census, Dayton had a population of 553 people. This makes Dayton the county's 11th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 553 people, the population of Dayton increased 1.84% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 543 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Dayton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Dayton post office opened in 1855.

We also found Dayton in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
