York County was founded August 19, 1749 and was created by taking area from Lancaster County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> York had a population of 449,341 people. This is an increase of 3.3% since the last Census (which gave a population of 434,972 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, York represented 3.42% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
