Montgomery County was founded September 10, 1784 and was created by taking area from Philadelphia County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Montgomery had a population of 830,397 people. This is an increase of 3.82% since the last Census (which gave a population of 799,874 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Montgomery represented 6.3% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
