Clarion County was founded March 11, 1859. Clarion was created by taking area from Venango and Armstrong Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Clarion had a population of 38,498 people. This is a decrease of 3.73% since the last Census (which gave a population of 39,988 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Clarion represented 0.31% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
