At the time of the 2010 Census, Sutherlin had a population of 7,810 people (which is 7.25% of the total population of Douglas County). This makes Sutherlin the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Sutherlin represents 0.2% of the total population of Oregon (which has 3,831,074 people), making it the state's 62nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,810 people, the population of Sutherlin increased 17.11% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 6,669 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sutherlin was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Sutherlin post office opened in 1909.
