At the time of the 2010 Census, Scappoose had a population of 6,592 people (or 13.36% of the total population of Columbia County). This makes Scappoose the county's 2nd most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Scappoose was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Scappoose post office opened in 1872.
