At the time of the 2010 Census, Hermiston had a population of 16,745 people (or 22.07% of the total population of Umatilla County). This makes Hermiston the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hermiston was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Hermiston post office opened in 1905.

We also found Hermiston mentioned on a train schedule titled Union Pacific Railroad Time Tables (September 1924).
