The community of Salem is the Seat for Marion County. Salem is also the capital of Oregon.

Marion County is one of the original counties of Oregon and was founded in 1843.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Marion had a population of 347,557 people. This is an increase of 10.22% since the last Census (which gave a population of 315,335 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Marion represented 8.23% of the total population of Oregon.
