While we don't have a date for the founding of Burns, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1884.

At the time of the 2010 Census, Burns had a population of 2,806 people (or 37.81% of the total population of Harney County). This makes Burns the county's most populous community.

The population of Burns represents 0.07% of the total population of Oregon (which has 3,831,074 people), making it the state's 99th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,806 people, the population of Burns decreased 8.42% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 3,064 people).

We originally found mention of Burns in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Burns was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Burns post office opened in 1884.

We also found Burns in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
