At the time of the 2010 Census, Idabel had a population of 7,010 people (which is 21.15% of the total population of McCurtain County). This makes Idabel the county's most populous community.

The population of Idabel represents 0.19% of the total population of Oklahoma (which has 3,751,351 people), making it the state's 58th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,010 people, the population of Idabel has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 6,952 people).

We originally found mention of Idabel in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Idabel was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Idabel post office opened in 1904.

We also found Idabel on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Oklahoma (1911).
