Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Lima had an population of 36,699 people. This is a decrease of 5.34% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.44% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lima had a population of 38,771 people (or 36.46% of the total population of Allen County). This makes Lima the county's most populous community.

The population of Lima represents 0.34% of the population of Ohio (which has 11,536,504 people), making it the state's 29th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 38,771 people, the population of Lima decreased 3.27% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 40,081 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lima was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Lima post office opened in 1832.
