At the time of the 2010 Census, Lancaster had a population of 38,780 people (which is 26.53% of the total population of Fairfield County). This makes Lancaster the county's most populous community.

The population of Lancaster represents 0.34% of the population of Ohio (which has 11,536,504 people), making it the state's 28th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 38,780 people, the population of Lancaster increased 9.75% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 35,335 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lancaster was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Lancaster post office opened in 1801.

We also found Lancaster in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
