At the time of the 2010 Census, Gallipolis had a population of 3,641 people (or 11.77% of the total population of Gallia County). This makes Gallipolis the county's most populous community.

The population of Gallipolis represents 0.03% of the total population of Ohio (which has 11,536,504 people), making it the state's 299th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,641 people, the population of Gallipolis decreased 12.89% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,180 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Gallipolis was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Gallipolis post office opened in 1794.
