Licking County was founded March 1, 1808 and was created by taking area from Fairfield County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Licking had a population of 177,174 people. This is an increase of 6.42% since the last Census (which gave a population of 166,492 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Licking represented 1.44% of the total population of Ohio.
