The community of Mount Vernon is the Seat for Knox County.

Knox County was founded March 1, 1808 and was created by taking area from Fairfield County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Knox had a population of 62,239 people. This is an increase of 2.16% since the last Census (which gave a population of 60,921 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Knox represented 0.53% of the total population of Ohio.
