Highland County was founded May 1, 1805. Highland was created by taking area from Ross, Adams and Clermont Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Highland had a population of 43,123 people. This is a decrease of 1.07% since the last Census (which gave a population of 43,589 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Highland represented 0.38% of the total population of Ohio.
