At the time of the 2010 Census, Oneonta had a population of 13,901 people (which is 22.33% of the total population of Otsego County). This makes Oneonta the county's most populous community.

The population of Oneonta represents 0.07% of the population of New York (which has 19,378,102 people), making it the state's 180th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 13,901 people, the population of Oneonta increased 4.58% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 13,292 people).
