Nassau County was founded in 1899 and was created by taking area from Queens County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Nassau had a population of 1,356,073 people. This is an increase of 1.23% since the last Census (which gave a population of 1,339,532 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Nassau represented 6.91% of the total population of New York.
