The community of Reno is the seat for Washoe County. Washoe County was founded November 25, 1861. Using the Census estimates for 2007<1>, Washoe had a population of 406,079 people. This is an increase of 18.94% since the 2000 Census (which gave a population of 341,416 people). At the time of the 2000 Census, Washoe represented 16.91% of the total population of Nevada, making it the state's 2nd most populous county.
