Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Silver City had an population of 9,369 people. This is a decrease of 9.17% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 11.15% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Silver City had a population of 10,315 people (which is 34.95% of the total population of Grant County). This makes Silver City the county's most populous community.

The population of Silver City represents 0.5% of the population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 19th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 10,315 people, the population of Silver City decreased 2.18% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 10,545 people).

We originally found mention of Silver City in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Silver City was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Silver City post office opened in 1871.

We also found Silver City in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
