While we don't have a date for the founding of Hurley, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1910.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Hurley has a population of 1,174 people<3> (see below for details).

The community of Hurley is 5,710 feet [1,740 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Hurley is about 1 mile [or 1¾ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: Hurley lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel west from Hurley (for example, toward Duncan (AZ)), you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Mountain Standard Time Zone (MST). In addition, you will be moving from an area that observes daylight saving time to one that does not.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hurley had an population of 1,174 people. This is a decrease of 9.48% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 19.81% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hurley had a population of 1,297 people. This makes Hurley the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Hurley represents 0.06% of the total population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 57th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,297 people, the population of Hurley decreased 11.41% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,464 people).

We originally found mention of Hurley in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hurley was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Hurley post office opened in 1910.

We also found Hurley on a map titled Rand McNally Map of New Mexico (1925).
