While we don't have a date for the founding of Hobbs, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1951.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Hobbs has a population of 39,060 people<2> (see below for details).

The community of Hobbs is 3,600 feet [1,097 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the altitude of Hobbs is about ¾ mile [or ~1 km] above sea level.

Population Details ...

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hobbs had an population of 39,060 people. This is an increase of 14.47% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 36.3% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hobbs had a population of 34,122 people (which is 52.72% of the total population of Lea County). This makes Hobbs the county's most populous community.

The population of Hobbs represents 1.66% of the population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 8th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 34,122 people, the population of Hobbs increased 19.07% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 28,657 people).
