Torrance County was founded in 1903. Torrance was created by taking area from Bernalillo and Valencia Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Torrance had a population of 15,442 people. This is a decrease of 5.74% since the last Census (which gave a population of 16,383 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Torrance represented 0.8% of the total population of New Mexico.
