At the time of the 2010 Census, Atlantic City had a population of 39,558 people (which is 14.41% of the total population of Atlantic County). This makes Atlantic City the county's most populous community.

The population of Atlantic City represents 0.45% of the total population of New Jersey (which has 8,791,894 people), making it the state's 21st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 39,558 people, the population of Atlantic City decreased 2.37% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 40,517 people).
