At the time of the 2010 Census, Sutton had a population of 1,502 people (or 22.96% of the total population of Clay County). This makes Sutton the county's most populous community.

The population of Sutton represents 0.08% of the population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 76th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,502 people, the population of Sutton increased 3.8% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,447 people).
