At the time of the 2010 Census, Sutherland had a population of 1,286 people. This makes Sutherland the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Sutherland represents 0.07% of the population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 83rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,286 people, the population of Sutherland increased 13.91% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,129 people).
