Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Ogallala had an population of 4,496 people. This is a decrease of 5.09% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.8% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ogallala had a population of 4,737 people (which is 56.61% of the total population of Keith County). This makes Ogallala the county's most populous community.

The population of Ogallala represents 0.26% of the population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 32nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 4,737 people, the population of Ogallala decreased 3.91% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,930 people).
