The population of Maxwell represents 0.02% of the population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 267th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 312 people, the population of Maxwell has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 315 people).

We originally found mention of Maxwell in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Maxwell was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Maxwell post office opened in 1882.

We also found Maxwell on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).
