Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Chadron had an population of 5,378 people. This is a decrease of 8.08% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 4.54% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Chadron had a population of 5,851 people (which is 63.72% of the total population of Dawes County). This makes Chadron the county's most populous community.

The population of Chadron represents 0.32% of the population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 29th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 5,851 people, the population of Chadron increased 3.85% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 5,634 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Chadron was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Chadron post office opened in 1885.

We also found Chadron on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).
