Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Central City had an population of 2,896 people. This is a decrease of 1.3% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 3.4% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Central City had a population of 2,934 people (or 37.4% of the total population of Merrick County). This makes Central City the county's most populous community.

The population of Central City represents 0.16% of the population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 45th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,934 people, the population of Central City decreased 2.13% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,998 people).

We originally found mention of Central City in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Central City was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Central City post office opened in 1875.

We also found Central City on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).
