At the time of the 2010 Census, Williston had a population of 14,716 people (which is 65.7% of the total population of Williams County). This makes Williston the county's most populous community.

The population of Williston represents 2.19% of the total population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 9th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 14,716 people, the population of Williston increased 17.62% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 12,512 people).

We originally found mention of Williston in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Williston was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Williston post office opened in 1887.

We also found Williston in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
