At the time of the 2010 Census, Tolna had a population of 166 people (which is 5.31% of the total population of Nelson County). This makes Tolna the county's 6th most populous community.

We originally found mention of Tolna in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tolna was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Tolna post office opened in 1906.

We also found Tolna on a map titled Shell Oil Road Map for North Dakota (1949).
