At the time of the 2010 Census, Stanley had a population of 1,458 people (or 19% of the total population of Mountrail County). This makes Stanley the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Stanley represents 0.22% of the total population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 40th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,458 people, the population of Stanley increased 14% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,279 people).
