Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Mandan had an population of 22,670 people. This is an increase of 23.67% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 35.6% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Mandan had a population of 18,331 people (which is 66.73% of the total population of Morton County). This makes Mandan the county's most populous community.

The population of Mandan represents 2.73% of the population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 18,331 people, the population of Mandan increased 9.65% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 16,718 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mandan was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Mandan post office opened in 1879.
