From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Leal was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Leal post office opened in 1892.

We also found Leal on a map titled Rand McNally Map of North Dakota (1897).
