At the time of the 2010 Census, Hatton had a population of 777 people (or 9.57% of the total population of Traill County). This makes Hatton the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Hatton represents 0.12% of the total population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 84th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 777 people, the population of Hatton increased 9.9% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 707 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hatton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Hatton post office opened in 1881.

We also found Hatton in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
