At the time of the 2010 Census, Hampden had a population of 48 people. This makes Hampden the county's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 48 people, the population of Hampden decreased 20% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 60 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hampden was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Hampden post office opened in 1903.

We also found Hampden on a map titled Rand McNally Map of North Dakota (1937).
