At the time of the 2010 Census, Cando had a population of 1,115 people (which is 49.64% of the total population of Towner County). This makes Cando the county's most populous community.

The population of Cando represents 0.17% of the population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 54th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Cando was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Cando post office opened in 1884.

We also found Cando in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
