Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Wilmington had an population of 123,522 people. This is an increase of 16.01% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 62.88% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wilmington had a population of 106,476 people (or 52.54% of the total population of New Hanover County). This makes Wilmington the county's most populous community.

The population of Wilmington represents 1.12% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 8th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 106,476 people, the population of Wilmington increased 40.4% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 75,838 people).
