Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Washington had an population of 9,516 people. This is a decrease of 2.34% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 0.7% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Washington had a population of 9,744 people (which is 20.4% of the total population of Beaufort County). This makes Washington the county's most populous community.

The population of Washington represents 0.1% of the population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 86th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 9,744 people, the population of Washington increased 1.68% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 9,583 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Washington was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Washington post office opened in 1788.
