At the time of the 2010 Census, Plymouth had a population of 3,878 people (or 29.32% of the total population of Washington County). This makes Plymouth the county's most populous community.

The population of Plymouth represents 0.04% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 163rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,878 people, the population of Plymouth decreased 5.58% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,107 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Plymouth was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Plymouth post office opened in 1792.

We also found Plymouth in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (1803).
