Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Mebane had an population of 16,241 people. This is an increase of 42.55% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 122.97% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Mebane had a population of 11,393 people (or 7.54% of the total population of Alamance County). This makes Mebane the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Mebane represents 0.12% of the population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 76th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 11,393 people, the population of Mebane increased 56.41% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,284 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mebane was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<9>

From that list, the Mebane post office opened in 1885.

We also found Mebane in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
