Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hamlet had an population of 6,386 people. This is a decrease of 1.68% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 6.11% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hamlet had a population of 6,495 people (or 13.93% of the total population of Richmond County). This makes Hamlet the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Hamlet represents 0.07% of the population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 111st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,495 people, the population of Hamlet increased 7.93% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 6,018 people).
