The community of Warrenton is the Seat for Warren County.

Warren County was founded in 1779 and was created by taking area from Bute County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Warren had a population of 19,692 people. This is a decrease of 6.1% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,972 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Warren represented 0.22% of the total population of North Carolina.
