Pamlico County was founded in 1872. Pamlico was created by taking area from Beaufort and Craven Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Pamlico had a population of 12,650 people. This is a decrease of 3.76% since the last Census (which gave a population of 13,144 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Pamlico represented 0.14% of the total population of North Carolina.
