Iredell County was founded in 1788 and was created by taking area from Rowan County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Iredell had a population of 181,866 people. This is an increase of 14.07% since the last Census (which gave a population of 159,437 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Iredell represented 1.67% of the total population of North Carolina.
