Henderson County was founded in 1838 and was created by taking area from Buncombe County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Henderson had a population of 117,347 people. This is an increase of 9.94% since the last Census (which gave a population of 106,740 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Henderson represented 1.12% of the total population of North Carolina.
