At the time of the 2010 Census, Chapel Hill had a population of 57,233 people (which is 42.77% of the total population of Orange County). This makes Chapel Hill the county's most populous community.

The population of Chapel Hill represents 0.6% of the population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 16th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 57,233 people, the population of Chapel Hill increased 17.49% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 48,715 people).
